Not all Web Pro’s are the same
The internet is complicated, and to create a successful website requires the knowledge of many different skill sets. Most often these skill sets are not naturally found in most people. Design, layout and user experience are all in the creative skill set found mostly in designers and artists. Server administration, programming and database normalization are much more scientific skills found in programmers, engineers and the like.
Programmers and Designers
A designer will most likely talk about esthetics, and programmers will talk about technology. In the worst case, hiring a designer centric shop can give you a great looking site with poor technology. Or hiring a programmer can give you a very sophisticated online application, but the user experience may be poor or confusing to use. While both the design and technology of a site are important, its also important to understand the words and metrics of the web so you know if your professional knows how to reach the right results for you. Learning the digital lexicon can help you identify what type of professional you are hiring.
